My grandfather was Robert William Woodhead - from Lancashire I believe. He must have been born in the 1880s (probably early). He married Ada Pauline Ganaway (or Gannaway) from Southampton just after the First World War (1919?) and they had one son, my father, Patrick Hamilton Woodhead, born in Liverpool in 1920. I have also understood that Hamilton was a family name - but it might have been from the Gannaways). R.W. Woodhead was a Charted Accountant in Liverpool, and had a sister - Dorothy - who was an academic (B.A. Liverpool and M.A. London). The latter, a spinster, accidentally gassed herself in 1959 or 1960. I have a photograph of the family holidaying at Lake Windermere c. 1919-1925. His mother (my great-grandmother) is in the photograph looking very Edwardian and severe. I don't know what Robert William's and Dorothy's parents were called. Might there be a connection to the Lancashire/Cheshire Woodheads you are interested in? R.W. & A.P. Woodhead went back to Cheshire (West Kirby on the Wirral) at the end of their lives where they both died.
