Michael:
None of your information rings any bells, sorry :o(
Many Newfoundlanders went to Nova Soctia to work in the mines, so it is possible that your family originated in Newfoundland. Unfortunately there are not many on line resources to help you gather data. The Woodfine's are located in the Avalon, the West Coast and Torbay in Newfoundland, I have also heard from others in Ontario and Quebec (there are Woodfine's in Quebec especially Montreal).
I'd be happy to share what I have but in order for it to be helpful you'll need to gather some basic facts about your grandfather or great grandfather (date and place of birth, mothers name and siblings).
You might look at http://www.huronweb.com/genweb/nfdata/main_065.htmhttp://www.huronweb.com/genweb/nfdata/main_065.htm, to get more info. You can also subscribe to the Roots Web Newfoundland mailing list and search to see if there is any mine survivors information available from Nova Scotia.
You can e-mail me at [email protected]
