Richard Woodcock, Oregon Trail, 1844
Posted by: Barry Woodcock (ID *****7953) Date: September 22, 2005 at 05:24:35

In THE OREGON TRAIL, AN AMERICAN SAGA, a 2004 book published by Alfred A. Knopf, author David Dary details a particular wagon train that started for the Oregon Country from Missouri in May, 1844.

Organized and commanded (initially) by Cornelius Gilliam, the train began with more than 300 men, women, and children. Once across the Missouri River, Gilliam divided the wagon train into three divisions, one of which was captained by a Richard Woodcock.

Does anyone know the ancestry of this particular Woodcock?
