Joseph Woodburn's family USA
My Great Uncle *Joseph Woodburn*, born 20th Dec 1982 - Darwen, Lancs, England, emigrated to America in 1921, along with his wife *Mehetabel Alice* (maiden name Nutter, born around Sept 1892, Haslingden Lancs).
They were married in 1919, Blackburn, Lancs UK.
According to the Ellis Island website they arrived in New York on 11th June 1921 on the Cartmenia & were allegedly going to stay with a "cousin" - *George Bundle* at 322 Sawyer St, New Bedford Mass.
According to the Manifest they were planning to return to the UK within 12 months - but I know Joseph remained in the USA until his death in May 1967 ( according to SSDI - he died in Bakersfield, Kern, California). He came to the UK to visit, when I was a small child, a few years before his death. My father seems to think his wife hadn't long been dead at that time.I can't find any record of her death, either in the USA or UK.
I know there was some sort of *scandal* attached to his marriage & subsequent emigration, but as there are no living relatives in the UK with any real memories, this also remains a mystery!
My father seems to think he had two daughters - but whether their mother was the wife he arrived with in 1921 is also unknown. My father seems to think both daughters married, but where they or their descendants are now is also unknown to any of the family in the UK, that's if they had any children.
I would really like to know what happened to Joseph & his wife during the years they lived in the USA. I would also like to find out the whereabouts of his daughters & possibly their descendants. I've no idea when, or where they were born, or who they married. My father thinks both of their husbands served in Vietnam, but he's not sure!
I'd be grateful for any information
