I am looking for information on Jesse Decatur Woodard, who may have a sister, Lucretia Elizabeth Woodard,m. Wm.W.Herring. I believe the parents of both are George Washington and Angeline P.Woodard,as listed on the Little River,Ark 1880 census. I have the original 1937 Social Security application for; "Jess Decatur Woodard, b.9-18-1881,parents,George Washington Woodard, father, unk.?,mother, place of birth,Poke Co.,Ark.." I believe Jesse was wrong on his SS appl.,and his actual DOB was in Sep.,1879, or he lied purposely for some reason. There is no "Poke Co.,Ark.,I think he meant Polk or Pope. He may have actually been born in one of these counties and the family moved to Little River County before the 1880 census. Jesse Woodard m.1903,Polk Co.,Ark., to Sarah Matilda Thompson, then they are listed in 1910 census of Dent Co.,Mo., and 1920 St.Louis Co.,Mo.census. He served a short sentence in the Jefferson City,Mo.prison,1918, for theft, where he is listed as "Indian". I believe this Woodard family may trace their roots to Cherokee or one of the other tribes who migrated west to Arkansas and Oklahoma, 1820's-1830's from southern states. Jesse and Sarah Matilda had at least 6 kids, settled for awhile in Jefferson Co.,Mo.,(not to be confused with Jefferson City),where some of their kids stayed and set down roots. In later years Jesse and Sarah Matilda lived in St.Clair and Madison Co.'s,Illinois. Both died there, but are both buried at Luckey Baptist Church cemetery in Jefferson Co.,Mo..There are still Woodards in Jefferson Co.,Mo., who trace to this family. Any help on the parents of Jesse and Lucretia would be much appreciated . I am just starting to research Indian records...Al
