SHREVEPORT, LA. - A memorial service for David L. Womack will be held at Centenary College's Brown Memorial Chapel on Thursday, September 3, 2009, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Betsy Eaves, College Chaplain, and Dr. David Rowe, President of the College, will officiate.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home.

Womack, the Dean of Students at Centenary, was born January 7, 1960 in Philadelphia, PA and passed away Saturday, August 29, 2009. Dean Womack had been at Centenary since September 2008 and was responsible for the oversight of the departments of Career Services, Student Life programs and activities, Fitness Center operations, Residence Life, Health Services and College Counseling. He brought to Centenary more than 20 years of experience in higher education administration. Before assuming his current position, he was the Dean of Student Development at Millikin University in Decatur, Ill. A graduate of Lock Haven University, he received his Master's Degree in Counseling/Student Personnel from Western Maryland College.

Dean Womack was a member of the Rotary Club of Shreveport, Honorary Maroon Jacket at Centenary College and listed in Outstanding Young Men of America and Who's Who in American Education. He had 13 years experience as a trainer and programmer in the areas of cultural diversity. Dean Womack served as a consultant on diversity training and volunteer programs at many colleges and universities. He published numerous articles in the area of retention, freshman experience and diversity awareness. Dean Womack made presentations at numerous national conferences on various topics, including "The Role of Student Personnel Administrators in Black Student Retention", "The Multiracial Student Experience" and "How to Start a Volunteer Service Program at Your Institution". David was deeply respected and admired. Family, friends, co-workers, and students will miss him dearly. Shreveport has lost a true educator.

His wife, Elizabeth Henning, and their children, Tyler, Landon and Mason Womack, and his son, Donovan Womack; parents, Ellis and Thais Womack; siblings, Damon, Kim and Ellen Womack; and a host of nieces and nephews, survive David.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Dean Womack, the family has requested donations be made to the Autism Society of America, 7910 Woodmont Avenue, Suite 300, Bethesda, MD or call 301.657.0881. Rose-Neath Funeral Home
