William Wammack or Wommock of Southampton, VA
I recently visited the Womack Genealogy newsletter. There I noticed that Womacks had been enumerated in the Wake Co., NC census as Warmouths or Warmoths. That statement gave me pause in thinking that the reverse could also be possible.
In an effort to find the ancestors of Thomas Warmouth or Warmoth, I have been studying the taxlists and deeds of the areas of Isle of Wight, Nansemond and Southampton, VA.There I found deeds for Wammack or Wommock in the mid 1700's.Further investigation into these deeds revealed that a 1754 property description matched a 1747 patent in the Isle of Wight county records.
Can anyone identify with William, William, Jr. or Thomas Wammack or Wommock of Southampton? The spelling in the older records for Warmouth/Warmoth has varied tremendously and in ways never imagined. My objective is to either eliminate this possible variant spelling or pursue this further.
Any help would be appreciated.Admittedly, I am trying to save myself some work.I could spend hours and hours trying to prove or disprove this theory and I would be very grateful for the help if someone already has the answer.
