Jill,

In making connections on query boards like this, you need to remember that people reading this message are from all over the US and elsewhere. In order to catch their attention, you need to include the place or places these people were born or where lived and the times/dates of these events.

Now, there were two main lines of Wolvertons who settled in Texas in the 1840's. One line settled in Anderson County in the area of Tennessee Colony. They are descendants of Andrew Wolverton who was born in 1750 in Hunterdon Co., NJ and who died in Maury Co., TN in 1812. Andrew Wolverton was a grandson of Charles W. Wolverton b. 1659 in England and who emmigrated to West Jersey in 1680 with William Penn and the original Quaker colonists.

The second line of Wolverton's in Texas are descendants of Thomas Wolverton, the Tory and also a grandson of Charles W. Wolverton. Thomas Wolverton's grandson, Tilman Wolverton, was b. in VA in 1807 and lived in Ohio and then Ill before coming to Limestone County, Texas in 1843 and settling along Plummer's Creek, 2 miles west of modern day Mexia. Thomas Wolverton was living in Sussex Co., NJ at the start of the Revolution and was a Captain in the local militia. He refused to lead his militia against the British and he was jailed, tried and had his lands confiscated. In 1783 he and most of his family moved to New Brunswick, Canada but left behind his youngest son, Thomas, who was the father of Tilman. I am descended from Tilman Wolverton. If you think you may be connected to either of these family lines, I can be of help to you.

William Gorman
