Wolter Family Genealogy Forum
My family records show (Wilhelm) William Wolter - son of Johann Friederich Wolter Born 1847 in Germany - immigrated to America in 1854 with father Johann, mother Sophiua, brother (Heinrich) Henry. William married Caroline Maria Elizabeth (Hagen) Storbeck and had 16 children born from 1869 to 1892: Wilhelm Johann Heinrich Wolter, Fredrich Heinrich Johann Wolter, Sophia Elizabeth Maria Louisa Meina Wolter, Christopher Heinrich Wilhelm Wolter, Johann Friedrich Carl Wolter, Carl Eduard Wilhelm Johann Heinrich, Emma Maria Rosa Sophia Wolter, Karolina Wolter, Bertha Catharina Sophia Elizabeth Louise Wolter, Ida Sophia Luise Anna Wolter, Albert Fritz Eduard Heinrich Wilhelm Chri Wolter, Herman Carl Fredrich Johann Rudolph Wolter, Anna Maria Dora Wolter George Heinrich Wolter, Unknown Wolter 1892 (died as infant).
I do not see a Gertrude in this listing so I am not sure this will be of help to you. It is possible that Johann Friederich Wolter had siblings that came to America at the same time as he did and they had children (they would most likely have followed the same German Naming Pattern) with the same or similar names. Johann & Sophia had two more children after coming to America Friederich and Wilhelmina (I believe they were twins) Sophia died in 1874 and he remarried to: Anna Christiana Elizabeth Grothe nee Aherns. The Wolter Family arrived at a New York port of entry (aprobably Ellis Island) and were sent to Illinois - after a time most of the family moved to Minnesota, North and South Dakota and Iowa.
Hope some of this is helpful to you.
