Hello Sam: Thank you for your information about the Wollmann family. I too would like more information about the Wollmann family, and their history in Austria, Hungary, Romania and what is now Russia. Some background information: I was born in 1943, in Hermannstadt, (now Sibiu) Transylvania, which is a region in Romania. My grandfather, Michael Wollmann (b. 1876), and my great grandfather, also Michael Wollmann, were born in a small town about 15 miles east of Hermannstadt, called Holzmengen (now Hosman). I began to believe that my paternal ancestors were from the Hutterites when I found out that several Hutterite communities existed near Hermannstadt up to about 1790. These Hutterite communities were located at Alwinz, Kreuz and Stein, all located within about 15-20 miles of where my ancestors were born. I think that my paternal ancestors were part of the Hutterite communities that migrated from Transylvania to Vishenka, in what is now Russia, at about 1800. The other possibility is that the Wollmann family members from which come stayed behind when the Hutterites started their mass exodus from Transylvania during 1780-1800. And as you know, these 'lapsed' Hutterites later converted to Catholicism in order to avoid the religious persecution that was rampant during that era. If you know of one, I would really appreciate being able to get in touch with a genealogical expert who is knowledgable about the Wollmann family surname, and how it relates to the Hutterite history in Europe. Thank you for your assistance. Notify Administrator about this message?
