Del,
I am looking to connect my husband's Wolfinger family to their roots somewhere in Ohio.Gr. Grandfather was John Wolfinger. He is first recognized in Noble County, IN when he joined the Civil War and was married in the 1860's. In 1850 Noble Co., IN there is a listing for a John Wolfinger, age 5 with a Spangle family (do not know for sure that this is our John, but assume so).I am told that this family moved here from Crawford County, Ohio.In John's marriage to his second wife in 1900 his parents are listed as Benjamin and Sophia (Wetherholt) Wolfinger.
Today I came across the John Weatherholt family that you are speaking of in the 1850 census.Mathusalah Houston, Nancy Houston, Delilah Houston and Mary Wolfinger, age 10.Next family is John Weatherholt, Elizabeth Weatherholt, Sarah Weatherholt, Lydia Weatherholt and Elizabeth Wolfinger, age 7.We in John Wolfinger's family are wondering if Benjamin and Sophia had maybe a couple of kids (maybe Mary, Elizabeth, and John), with maybe a death of Sophia and then the children got split up and went to live with family and friends. We haven't found Benjamin or Sophia in 1850 or 1860, but Benjamin shows up in Noble County, IN in 1860's and remarries. In 1840 Belmont Co., OH Benjamin Wolfinger and John Weatherholt were listed beside each other.Benjamin and Sophia were married in Belmont Co. in 1839 (I think).
It looks to me as if the Houston family and the Weatherholt's were neighbors. Are they related, also?So far that I know of, our Benjamin Wolfinger says he was born in Pennsylvania in all the census that I have on him, and luckily I have not come across any name variations yet, only an added letter here or there.
Any thoughts?
Sherry Wolfinger
