Hi Mona,

You may want to check into Dutch records...a great place to start is http://www.genlias.nl/pls/gls03/home?cid=w0sx7H0IWakw1Wb6fEN0vY24F&cmd=pageEnglish.

Wolfert is an old (and widespread) Dutch surname that can be traced back to the 1500s; Hendrik Wolfert, in particular. (Of course, thanks to Dutch naming traditions, there are literally HUNDREDS of Hendrik Wolferts...my grandfather, uncle, and brother, just to name three!)

I'll let you know if I come across your grandfather's name in my own family research.
