Shortly after I posted the lead article to which I attach this follow-up it occurred to me that there was another distinct possibility that perhaps was obscured by legal short cuts taken by the probate office in Effingham Co. I must get back to Springfield to investigate further.
1. It is possible that Tinney Tison married John Woolf, not his father George. That would explain why there was no wife mentioned in George's will.
2. It is possible that Tinney was widowed in late 1834 before John had completely settled his father's estate, at least to the extent that he had not received a deed from his brothers Thomas, Irvin (and possibly Harmon) for his share. I am not sure such was legally required but in some cases I have seen where siblings in Effingham Co gave deeds to each other to cover such situations. As executor John had received receipts from Thomas and Irvin that they had their share. Those papers may have been signed some time before they were recorded.
3. If John did not have clear cut title to his share when he died, it may have been considered still a legal part of the George Woolf estate. It is possible that the probate officer asked that Tinney, heir to John's estate (if she were), sign a receipt for her share of George's estate where the property seems to have rested at the time. That by-passed the need for Wm C & Calvin Tison, apparent administrators of George's estate in 1835, to sign paperwork passing title from the deceased George to the deceased John.
4. One of the things I will look for is a record of who was guardian of John's minor children before Tinney was appointed such in 1839.
