WOLCOTT DNA PROJECT PROGRESS 12/17/05 The Wolcott DNA project is proceeding slowly. We have gotten the results of our first two tests. Participants were Charles W. Wolcott of Dallas, Texas, and John B. Wolcott of Corvallis Oregon. Charles is a descendant of William Henry Wolcott, born about 1800 in New York, and John is a descendant of Henry Wolcott, the immigrant, through his son Simon and grandson Thomas Wolcott. The results of the two 25 marker tests was that 22 markers were identical and 3 were different. The 3 that differed were only one point away from each other. It is difficult to reach much of a conclusion yet with only two participants. However, sharing 22 markers means that the two participants are distantly related and the 22 markers they share will probably be found in the DNA of most American Wolcotts. The 3 differing markers suggest that the relationship is fairly distant. It is our working hypothesis that there are only two different families to which all Wolcotts, Walcotts, Wilcotts, Walcutts, Wilcots, Wilcutts, Woolcotts and Wolacotts belong. To verify this, and to see how the various families are related, we will need additional participants, one more descendant of Henry, preferably through his son, Henry or George, and at least one each from the other families who are not descended from Henry Wolcott, the immigrant. If you are a Wolcott/Walcott/Wilcott/etc. male, please consider participating. Information about the project is located on the Wolcott Family web page at http://www.wolcottfamily.com/dna.html. Sorry, ladies, this is a Y chromosone test so you are unable to participate, but please tell your brother or cousin about it. Notify Administrator about this message?
