Names of Interest: BASCOMB, EVERTS, EVARTS, LAW, WHITNEY, GOSS, FRANKLIN, REED, STARR, WOLCOTT
In the 1820C Mexico, Oswego, New York there are two heads of household named Luther Everts. One is Luther, son of Samuel Gillette Everts. Elizabeth M. Simpson in her work, Mexico, Mother of Towns, found that in 1804 Samuel G. and Ebenezer Everts came to Mexico from Salisbury, CT. "The two brothers had lost their wives in a fever epidemic in 1801, Samuel G. being left with a family of nine: Elijah, Samuel G. Jr., Walter, Luther, Electa, Sarah, Asenath, Olive, and Julia while Ebenezer had six children: Mary or 'Polly', Waita, Melinda, Ebenezer, Jr., Frederick and Philo."
The other Luther in the census is next to Cornelius Whitney. Cornelius is likely the father of James Whitney who married Betsey Law. James died in 1817. Betsey Law Whitney married 2nd Luther Everts. This Luther Everts is no longer in Mexico, New York in 1830, but can be found elsewhere:

Aroline Perrin was the daughter of Calvin PERRIN of Troy, and d. in Dec. 1844.

A Solomon Everts appears in Shiawassee, Michigan 1850C. Same county as George W. Everts and Philinda Whitney Goss, his half-sister. Could this Solomon be named for his grandfather? Could the grandfather Solomon have named his son after his older brother Luther who removed to N.C.?
George W. Everts/Evarts b. 1828, Paris, Oneida, New York. George m. Martha Bascomb in 1850 Vernon, Shiawassee, Michigan. George died in the civil war - October 17, 1862, Keokuk, Lee, Iowa. Martha died February 02, 1864, leaving their boys orphaned.

carpenter. He d. Mar, 1817; res. Granville and Mexico, N.Y.

The above is not the Luther of interest here so Samuel G. Everts is ruled out. Probably not Samuel G.’s brother Ebenezer either as his family is well documented too.
Other Everts/Evarts settlers to the central New York region in the early 1800’s were Gilbert, Henry, and Solomon Everts.
From USGenWeb Oswego, New York: The first permanent white settler in Scriba outside the military post of Oswego was Henry Everts, who located with his family in the southwest part of the town, near the river, in 1798. “Here he felled the first tree cut by a white man, and while it was falling, although he was entirely alone, with no white person within several miles, he took off his hat, swung it around his head, and made the forest ring with his cheers. It is said of him that, having no seed with which to start a meadow, he went farther down the stream, cut up sods from some grassy spots there, and transplanted them to his own land. A few years later he removed to the town of Oswego. His son Henry, jr., was the first white child born in Scriba.
Another Everts settler to the area who could have been the father of Luther is Solomon b. Feb. 24, 1765. “Solomon removed to Mexico, New York” according to “John Evarts of Guilford, Connecticut and his Descendants”, compiled by Hon. Ralph D. Smith. Solomon’s ancestry from this source:

Erastus Stone was born in Greenville, Greene county, in 1791 and came to Scriba with his father in 1804. He was a surveyor and assisted in laying out roads in this town and in Volney. In 1818 he married Alma, daughter of Solomon Everts, one of the pioneers of Mexico. Later he built a saw mill and for several years carried on an extensive lumber business. He was a large fruit grower, a respected farmer, owned a large tract of land on lots 23, 24 and 44, and died May 22, 1870. (Notable that Solomon owned land on lot no. 54, adjacent to lot no. 44.)
Solomon is on the 1811 tax list and the 1814 Landowners list for the Oneida county towns of Mexico, New Haven, Volney, and Scriba. Solomon disappears thereafter and Luther appears on the 1820 census for Mexico, Oswego (400010-10010).
