Several Months Illness Results In Death of Widow of Late William Martin.
Eliza A. Martin, 78, widow of the late William Martin, life long resident of Blackford county, died at her home three and one half miles west of the city on Washington street pike, Tuesday morning at 7 o'clock following a two weeks critical illness with intestinal flu and complications.

Mrs. Martin had been in failing health for the past several months. No funeral arrangements have been made.
Eliza A. Martin was born in Blackford county, August 17, 1848, the daughter of Janes and Aceneth Saxon. She was the youngest of a family of seven children, all of whom have preceded her in death. She grew to young womanhood in the vicinity of her birth and on June 22, 1870 she was united in marriage to William Martin, of this county.
Following their marriage they moved to what is now the Martin farm, west of the city. At that time the land which now constitutes the farm was but a wilderness and the couple were compelled to withstand the unusual hardships in clearing the ground to make way for their home. Since their marriage they had resided continuously in the one place.

Mr. Martin died fifteen years ago and since that time Mrs. Martin had continued to reside on her farm with two daughters. She was a highly respected lady and numbered her friends in the legions. She was a member of the Harmony Baptist church, of Matthews.

She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Vanetta Wilson and Elmer Martin, of this city; Mrs. Ed Canter, residing west of the city, and the Misses Attie and Lulu Martin, at home.
T. A. Saxon , of this city, is a nephew and Mrs. Minerva Elsey, west Kickapoo street, is a niece. Nineteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.
PK COMMENT: Eliza Martin's mother's maiden name was Aceneth Wixon, daughter of Shubal Wixson, a Blackford County, Indiana pioneer. Eliza was the granddaughter of John Saxon and Elizabeth Evans. John Saxon was a Rev. War soldier who is buried in Blackford County, Indiana.
