from what i have been able to research so far, this is correct, the breakup of the Witty's [Whitty's] came after the land confiscation in Ireland by Cromwell. From their
"Whitty/Witty" homeland in Wexford, Ireland, they probably branched out first in Britain, also to the U.S., Canada, and Australia. Various spellings then came about upon the migration to different areas and countries. Previously, I have heard the saying "If you're a Witty, You're from Wexford". Hope this info. helps.
