Dear Roy,
Regarding Arturo Witty, otherwise Frederick Arthur Witty: his father went to Spain in 1869 for health reasons, and later helped to found the British Board of Trade there as well as a sports department store which flourished until a few years ago. He was great-grandson of Rev.John Francis Witty, vicar of St Matthews parish, Sheffield, who was in turn descended from the Wittys of Hull in the 1790s and back to Holme on the Wolds and Middleton on the Wolds. I used to write to Arturo`s son, Frederick Witty, whose family still lives in the Barcelona name. By the way,Arturo and his wife both got the MBE (for helping British citizens evacuate Spain on a boat to France in 1936) and Freddie got the OBE for his work in Sport. I believe Arturo was a founder member of Barcelona Football Club.
