Wittmer family in Ohio

I am trying to find my Paternal family.
The family first appears in Huron county, Ohio, abt. 1833. Rudolph Whitmar is the name on the tombstone, BUT My research has found tax map records show his name as Wettmore, Marriage license, Randolph Whitmore, property deed Rudolph Whitmer, He married Christian Wyand according to the marriage records in January 1836, Her tombstone reads Christiana Whitmore, His son, John used Whitmer and his children used Wittmer. Some had to go to court to prove or change the name to Wittmer. Rudolph owned a farm aong Lake Erie. He owned a farm that after 1838 was in lorain County ( there was a division of the counties at that time and Erie County was formed. There he was a fruit farmer, fisherman and sold sand, dredged from the lake. He married 2 Philabena Laheeh and Died in Lorain county,Ohio.
My understanding is that he was born in Germany, possibly Baden. I have son, John's family Bible and the names listed for Wittmer are Whitmore, Whitmar, Whitmer.
Any help will be appreciated unraveling this mess.
John owned the property until 1903 when it was sold to the Catholic diosease of Cleveland, it was then named "Layola on the lake" and still remaines in their hands.
