Ah yes, famous last words!! I do believe that it is a possibility that Thomas and Mary were married in Barbados. Lord Baltimore (of the Maryland fame)had plantations in the West Indies. Some of the Wittens were Sea Captains.

For some interesting information, the State of Maryland now has on-line government records that date back to our Thomas Witten's time. I did a search for "Witten" and found a petition to the legislature for the relief of prisoners "languishing in gaol", one of which was Thomas Witten. Something else to think about is the time frame for this. Just before the revolution...If he was bucking the authorities, if he was known as a trouble maker, they just might put him in jail to keep him out of trouble. Makes sense as to why his family fought in the revolution for the American side.
