Surely your Whitmers and mine are related. My John and Catherine Whitmer/Witmer/Whitmore were said to come to Crawford County, Ohio in 1828 from Northumberland Co., PA. They had a son, Peter, who moved away to Cedar County, Iowa. Peter's wife was Catharine Snyder. Peter may be a cousin to your Jacob in Cedar, Iowa. Peter was born ca. 1797 and died before 1870.

The Stone Valley Church online bapt. records have been very helpful. My John and Catherine had at least five other children besides the Peter I discussed above: John, Catharine, Christina who married Michael Nye, Elizabeth who married William Staley (my line) and Margaret who married Henry Lowmiller.
I found the following which I believe is my family:

Parents: Johannes Wittmer & wf.
Johann Peter b. June 18, 1797
bapt. - - - - by Rev. Miller in the sign of the Scorpion
Sponsors: Peter Alleman & wf. Catharina

Parents: Johannes Wittmer & wf. Catharina
Johannes b. Dec. 28, 1798 bapt. Apr. 1, 1799
Sponsors: Mattheus Wittmer & wf. Barbara

Parents: Michael Neu wf. Christina
Emmanuel b. - - - - - - bapt. June 5, 1825
Sponsors: Joh. Conrad Bachman wf Margaret

Parents: Peter Witmer wf. Catharina
James b. Oct. 28, 1825 bapt. Jan. - - , 1826
Sponsors: Jacob Schneider wf. Christina

I look forward to hearing from you!
Jodie
