Gail, I have a copy of the Withington Family History and James Snell Withingon and his children are part of it. I never heard of them, but out of curiosity I looked them up in the family history when I saw your message. My maiden name was Withington and my grandparents are mentioned in the same family history. I must be a very distant relative of theirs. Thanks for the new information. The first Withington ancestor that came to the U.S. from England was Henry Withington, b. 1589. He came to Dorchester, MA in 1635. He was one of the founders and original shareholders in the first ironworks America, on Mill River in Taunton. It was named after Henry Withington, although the spelling was a little different...Whittenton. I imagine Whittenton Dam that overflowed a few years ago in Taunton was probably near the site of the ironworks.
