Daniel Witcher of Cabell Co. VA
I have received a copy of the inventory of the Estate of Daniel Witcher of Cabell County in what is now West Virginia. It gives the date of his death as 19 July 1838 and on another page 20 July 1838. In Cabell documents he is refered to as Daniel Sr. because he had a son named Daniel refered to in documents as Daniel Jr. The settlement of his Estate took several years because he had land that had to be parcelled out between the heirs and livestock that had to be sold. 6 slaves are listed including Stephen who is probably the slave mention in the will of William Witcher, a woman named Silvay (sp) and four children. This is probably the family of Stephen. A James Morrison is listed as purchasing a grubbing hoe for 50 cents so that family was living in Cabell county in 1838.The four heirs are Daniel Jr., Jeremiah, Emily (Sharp)(Crouch)who lives in Bath Co. KY and Agnes (Wilson)who appears to be living in Cabell Co.. Since Daniel Sr. was born about 1758, that would make him about 80 when he died.Sanders, another son, died about 1813 and there is no mention of an Abram or a Samuel in the will. His wife, Sarah is mentioned. She survived him and is listed and living with her son, Jeremiah, in the census of 1850.
