Take a look at a Dissertation I looked at on the web someplace. Name is: Race, River, and the Railroad: Black Huntinton, West Virginia, 1871-1929. By Cicero M. Fain

In my research I have come across an Amos Witcher whom I think is probably a freed slave of Daniel Witcher in Cabell county around 1800.
