I'm a greatgrandson of Johann Ludwig Wissinger. My mother is Janet Louise Wissinger, the oldest child of Graham Wissinger, son of Edmund, son of Thomas, son of Isaac, son of Ludwig, son of Johann Ludwig:
I happened upon the information on Genealogy.com which concerns the Wissinger family genealogy and wanted to know the opinions of others concerning Johann Ludwig's year of birth. If it is true that he immigrated in 1740 and died in 1778 (and these facts seem fairly certain), I'm of the opinion that he was born in 1718, and this is why; 1) it would have made him 22 years of age when he immigrated, 2) there's mention of a record in Germany that had his year of birth as 1718, 3) there's mention of the fact that he was believed to be 60 years of age upon his death in 1778, and, 4) some of his' children are said to be born in the 1760's and 70's, which would have meant that he was having children when he was in his 60's!
Just wondered if there are strong arguments about the 1703 year of birth and his positioning among the children of Johann Georg family?
