Patricia,

I can't tell you how excited I am that there is a photo of Nellie still in existence! In 1912, Nellie was the girlfriend of Claud Allen who was involved in the great courthouse shootout in Carroll County, VA on 14MAR1912. After Claud was sentenced to death and awaiting execution in Richmond prison, Nellie made many trips to see governor William Hodges Mann to plead for his life. However, it was all for naught, as Claud, along with his father, Floyd, was electrocuted in March 1913.

As I understand it, Nellie moved to Princeton, WV and married a man named Bowman sometime later.

The book I wrote was called "The Carroll County Courthouse Tragedy" and it was donated to the Carroll Historical Society. They sell it by mail order at the Carroll GenWeb Site.

If you would be so kind as to share a copy of the photo with me, I'd be happy to pay any copying/mailing costs.

Thank you in advance and best regards,
Ron Hall
