John Wishard or Wiseheart born circa 1725 in Ireland
My research turned up the subject person as my direct ancestor.
This John supposedly was born in Antrim, Ireland circa 1725.He was the son of George Wishard born circa 1703 in Edinburgh, Scotland.
George was a respected minister and may have traveled to Ireland various times; however, his other children are listed as being born in Scotland, where he died about 1785.
John married Agnes Hilton, possibly in Ireland, possibly in Cumberland, PA.Some sites have John dying in Ireland, while others have him passing away here in the US about 1778.
It is more then likely that it is 'his' four sons that fought in the US Revolutionary War, my direct ancestor being his first born James (circa 1748).
I am interested in finding out the true facts since Wishart was my maiden name.
My father was born Robert Kenneth Wishart in Akron, Ohio in 1924.Sadly he passed away in 2000.
John Wishard of Ireland would have been my 5th great-grandfather.
I do remember my paternal grandmother, Bess Mary Wilson Wishart, telling me that alot of the Wishart ancestors were in the ministry.
I hope someone can verify this for me.
Thank you,
Cynthia
