Hi,
I was reading your posts and thought that I might be able to help.
I moved to Norwich, norfolk a few years ago and did some research into my (our?) family history a while ago.
I managed to the Wisemans back around 1770-80s in Norwich itself before Ilost track. The oldest record I found was a David Wiseman who is listed on his son's baptism record as a soldier. There is no Jewish connection I could find and a substantial Jewish community did'nt return to Norwich until the early 19th century, which leaves a 600yr gap to fill in to link it to the original Jewish community here.
There seem to be a couple of different Wiseman' families found in London, Lancashire, Scotland and Norfolk who are unconnected.
The name Wiseman could be linked to an occupation (sort of an unqualified local doctor/apothecary) or a place name (a corruption of Wymondham would not be impossible for example).
However, I've got pictures of the Wiseman's going back to the late 19th century and they do all look distinctly jewish, so it's possible that they hid their origins somewhere along the line.
If you want anymore info let me know
