Hi Adam, sorry I can't directly help you names of with Rowland's ancestors but I found online yesterday mention of the Militiary Survey of Gloucestershire 1522, which might shed light on some previous ancestors of ours in the Westminster Hundred-Apperley. (I will post this message seperately to see if there are any leads). Do you know or any other Wintle out there where we could get hold of this. Perhaps someone already has. I am guessing you are at a stage above me now. I am coming back to my tree after several years and am frantically collecting information and putting it all together. My top line is Thomas Wintle , who married M. Ann Dipper and who died 1714. Before this is still a muddle. I am wondering if he links in somewhere to Rowland. Also have you seen the full tsanscripts of the Gloucester , birth death and marriage registers on line? Just Google Deerhurst Registers and follow the link. By the way as still rusty at this, where/how can i get hold of the 1608 war census you mentioned? Your mention of A'Wyntyll is really interesting as my father ( who died in September 07 aged 86) has mentioned a possible Norman, Belgian or Dutch Link. In research , yes i have various spellings which i put down to the fact of church wardens 300 years ago spelling phonetically hence I can't dismiss when researching Wintell, Wyntle, Wyntell, Winntel, Wintel, Wintoll especially when looking in the Gloucester archives. So your A'Wyntyll is exciting news. I look forward to hearing from you ( or any other Wintles )in due course. I live in China now so access to printed matter and militiary museums not that easy! regards Jonathan Notify Administrator about this message?
