Dear Cecily,
Nice work!Did you ever figure out where all of that information came from? It's such a goldmine.
I was especially interested in the fact that William had a brother already living in Cincinnati.A while back, I had looked in the 1825 Cincinnati City Directory (the earliest that I know of) and found two men named Winter, both from England. One was John Winter, a blacksmith, the other was Thomas Winter, a "hair dresser".An odd occupation for 1825, I thought. Then I saw in the 1880 San Francisco census that a Magdalene Winter, wife of Clinton Winter (mother born in England, father in Maryland) worked in a human hair store.I have no idea if the two things are related or if they are even related to the Winters we're looking for.???I had originally dismissed both of those men as unrelated, and they certainly don't sound like brothers of an art dealer, but maybe I was too quick.
It also got me thinking about the fact that there were a number of other children named Winter who were christened about the same time and at the same church in Portsea as the children of William & Elizabeth Winter.Cousins?Or maybe not.It could be worth walking up that path a little.
I have some family (the living kind!) things to take care of for the next week or so.Then I will get the Ann Winter Moore & descendants information together and post it.That will show, back to the Agnes business, that Ann also had a granddaughter named Agnes who was my husband's great great grandmother.I imagine you're right--working backwards there's probably still another Agnes.
I am looking forward to having some time to do some more investigating.
Nancy
