1837: Dr. John S. Winston, b. Louisa Co. VA; d. Nacogdoches Co. TX.
DIED.
In Nacogdoches on the 18th inst. Dr. John S. Winston, aged 37 years, a native of Louisa county, Virginia. Dr. W. entered the regular service of Texas on the 9th of February 1836; his conduct was that of a gentleman and soldier; after the battle of San Jacinto he was promoted to the rank of assistant surgeon to the regular infantry and artillery, under the command of colonel Millard, and continued to perform the duties of that office with honor and credit to himself, until sometime last fall, when ill health compelled him to retire from the service.
