Mr. S. S. WINSLETT (ca. 1869-1897), Columbus, Muscogee Co, GA
The following death notice was passed to me by a fellow researcher:
"ASADDEATH: After a Long Illness of Consumption, Mr. Winslett Expired Yesterday - Mr. S. S. Winslett died at his home,No. 209 Sixteenth street, at 10:25 yesterday morning, after a protracted illness of consumpton. The deceased was 28 years old, and leaves a wife and many friends to mourn his loss. He was a member of the Beulah Christian church in Girard [AL].The funeral will take place from the family residence at 12 o'clock today. The interment will occur at Clapp's factory burying ground."
The notice appeared in the Columbus [GA] Enquirer-Sun newspaper, p. 3.The residence was probably in Phenix City, Lee Co, AL, but could have been in Girard, Russell Co, AL, or Columbus, Muscogee Co, GA.The Clapp's Factory Cemetery is now within the city limits of Columbus, but at that time was several miles north of the city. The mill operated from the early 1830's to the mid-1880's.
I am interested in learning of S.S. WINSLETT's identity and family connections.Thank you - John
