It is not unusual for a name to be spelt different ways in the same family. For example, I descend from the Wynns of Gwydir in Wales. The family name is spelt at least twelve different ways in my family. Some even add a G at the begining.I am a linguist and the name Wynn, Wynne, Winn, and Wynns, etc all come from the name Gwynnedd which was a kingdom in northern Wales. The Wynns descend from King Rhodri Mawr, an eighth century Welsh King.My Wynns settled in Virginia and North Carolina in Bertie County.I am 46 years old and am having a heart operation tomorrow.I can share some information with you later.Wynns also reused first names a great deal.I descend from George Wynns of Gwydir who married Rose Bush.He was born in 1675 and lived in Jamestown until he left for Bertie County. You can find the family in many source texts. He also spelt the name Winn and Wynne. There were several Thomas Wynns in the total family.Do you descend from the Col Robert Wynne branch, who was Speaker of the House of Burgesses in Virginia or Dr. Thomas Wynne of Pa.They are Gwydir Wynns too.
