Conrad Winkler 1787-1856 North Carolina
Posted by: Diane Simmons (ID *****4591) Date: October 07, 2010 at 07:35:50
  of 1306

I haven't had a lot of luck with my Winkler line. My GGrandmother was Ada Bell Winkler, only (adopted) child of George W Winkler. George W Winkler was born Nov 3 1864 in either Burke or Caldwell County NC and died in 1901 . He was the only son of Thomas O Winkler (1828-1869 Burke County NC) and Rhoda Poovey (1831-1883 Lincoln County NC). Thomas O Winkler was the only son of Conrad (spelled Coonrod on 1840 & 1850 censuses) Winkler (1787-1856 Lincoln County NC) and Mary Unknown (1786-1866 Burke County NC). All of these people died in Caldwell County NC and are buried in Pinecrest Cemetery, Granite Falls, NC.

I am trying to find out exactly who my Conrad Winkler was and which line he came from. In both the 1840 and 1850 census, there is a Michael Winkler within a couple of households of Conrad Winkler. Michael seems to be about 19 or 20 years younger than Conrad. Don't know what the connection there is yet.

Laura Isabelle 1867 (Caldwell County NC) married William Pinkney Williams

George W and Mary [Shook] Winkler
children: Susan Adabelle (adopted from birth mother. George was her birth father) born 1888 in Burke County

Is there anyone out there who may have information or enlightenment on this line?

Thanks for any help!
Diane Simmons
