Since my last note here, much research has been done to trace the WINKER family, both in the U.S. and in Germany.
John (Johan) Winker was apparently born 10 Apr 1823 in Denkingen, Schwarzwaldkreis, Wuerttemberg, a village not far from Spaichingen in the very south of Germany, near the Swiss border.
John Winker's parents were apparently Georg and Agatha (Streicher) Winker. Other researchers have provided information that takes this family back several more generations.
