Well, My husband descends from Temperance too and she is full of controversy. She was married to John Wesley Wingate, Sr. (we think), but there are no records on him. She had four sons and suppossedly the youngest was illegitamate, (creditedt to James B. Shirley) but there is no proof. I am hoping a DNA study will clear it all up in the future. In the Wingate surname page search John Wesley, Temperance or Shirley and there are several postings that tell the whole story.
