In 1850 census for Rose Twp., Carroll Co., OH, there are 3 WINDGATE children, each living with a different family. Were they possibly children from the infamous Orphan Trains filled with New York City's street children?
They were:
Melissa WINDGATE, 12, living with Jacob and Elizabeth SWANEY;
Thomas WINDGATE, 11, living with William and Elizabeth DITMUS;
Henry WINDGATE, 6, living with William and Rosannah KOONTZ and their son Theodore, 2, plus Rebecca KOONTZ, age 52.
