Deborah Wing and William Dungan

There seems to be little doubt that Deborah Wing, daughter of Daniel Wing and Hannah Swift, married a William Dungan sometime between 1684 and 1687. The location of the marriage is not known, although Barnstable, MA, Newport RI, and Bucks Co. PA have all been cited.

What puzzles me is how she came to meet William, if as most sources claim, he was the one born in Rhode Island and the son of Thomas Dungan and Elizabeth Weaver. If he was not the William of Rhode Island, does anyone have any clues about his ancestral background?
