James Harris married May 12, 1791 in Nottoway County, Virginia, Miss Elizabeth Winfree who was born January 11, 1772; they were married at the home of Mrs. Ann Winfree. The name of Elizabeth's parents were not stated. James Harris was Sheriff of Nottoway County at one time.
James Harris and his his wife, Elizabeth, moved from Virginia in 1791 to Wake County, North Carolina and resided there near the line of Franklin Co. He died there Nov 13, 1823. It was stated that he was a wealthy man and left a "considerable estate for each of his children" Elizabeth
Harris, his widow, died July 20th 1847 in Wake County, North Carolina.

He applied them in behalf of himself and his brothers and sisters, listed above, for the pension which might have been due on account of service of their father, James Harris, in the Revolutionary War.
