Dear Tom:
My great-grandfather and grandmother were George W and Samantha Wine of Vinton County ( Vinton had been part of Hocking County until after the Civil War).Burial is in the Wolf Cemetery in Eagle Township in Vinton County ( quite picturesque, at the top of a high ridge).George W. born 6/14/1857, died 12/20/1905 of typhoid fever per family lore..I do not have firm dates for Samantha. Here are their children per the Vinton birth records: Elmira on 08/28/1891, died around 1972 ( I knew her as Ella-she lived in Newark,Oh), Arthur Tilden Tatman, my grandfather, on 8/29/95, died 12/03/1976 in Willoghby, Ohio near Cleveland, Iva Ester born 4/30/99, believe she died as an infant, Stanley L. born 12/19/80, died 4/18/98 of "pneumonia" per death records,Levi, listed as "no first name" in the records born 3/15/86, died about 1970 in Brookston, Indiana,, the oldest sister Sarah is not listed in the birth records, but her tombstone in the Wolf Cemetery indicates 1878-1948 ( my parents recall going to her funeral); she was married to Edward H. Wolf and they lived on Wolf land near the cemetery.George and Samantha married 2/18/78 in Vinton County. Also, there are many Wines in the Stevens Cemetery on County Road 47 in northern Jackson Township of the county. The Tatmans were English and originally hailed from Scituate Massachusetts, two brothers took land grants in S, Ohio following the War of 1812 ( see Zanesville Land Office records at Ohio Historical Society).Grandpa told me the Wines were Scots-Irish.Wolf's who haevily intermarried with Tatmans had come from North Carolina.Hope this helps.
