John B. Windham and others have posted information on the this Forum, and on other sites, indicating that evidence exist which prove that the John Windham, born 1784-1785, and died in Dale County, AL in 1836 was a Junior. And was a son of Old John Windham, SR.
To my knowledge no document exist which indicate that this 1785 John Windham was ever referred to as a Junior except the Minnie Lee Cox Letter. And even in her letter she states “to the best of her recollection”
I believe written documentation and paper trail proof clearly reflect that this 1784-1785 John Windham was not a biological Son of Old John Windham, SR., as is being purposed by John B. Windham and others, but was rather a step son of Old John Windham, SR.

Here are few facts that should be looked at very closely by other researchers concerning the Ancestry of This Windham Family Line.

FACT: In the 1800 Census Report this John Windham, Jr. was enumerated as being 16 to 26 years of age and has a wife 16 to 26 years of age. (Please note that the 1785 John Windham had not married yet when the 1800 Census was taken.)

FACT: In the 1810 Census Report this John Windham, “jun”. has a wife and one male child under 10 and one female child under10 years of age. ( Please note that the 1785, Dale County, AL, John and Jane Bartlett Windham did not have a daughter born until 1815.)\

FACT: The 1784-1785 John Windham who married Jane Bartlett was documented as head of household in the 1810 Census Report for Darlington County, SC. He was enumerated as John Windham, “min”
( I believe the “min” stood for Minister ) Living in this household with this John Windham, “min” was a wife and two male children. ( This matches up to be the first two sons of John and Jane Bartlett Windham.)

FACT:       John Windham married Jane Bartlett on February 11, 1808 in Darlington Co., SC.

FACT;        The 1784-1785 John Windham who married Jane Bartlett was documented as head of household in the 1810 Census Report for Darlington County, SC. He was enumerated as John Windham, “min”
( I believe the “min” stood for Minister ) Living in this household with this John Windham, “min” was a wife and two male children. ( This matches up to be the first two sons of John and Jane Bartlett Windham.)

FACT: The 1800 and 1810 Census Reports reflect that the families of Old John Windham, SR., the family of John Windham, Jr., the family of John Windham, “min”, and the family of James Windham were all living very close together.

FACT:        Rachel Windham swears in a document dated May 28, 1856 that she was a Windham before she married Old John Windham, SR.
Though this is not proof, I believe it is strong evidence to support that Rachel had been married to a Windham before she married Old John, SR. And I believe that Windham, was James Windham, the ˝ brother of Old John, SR. I also believe this accounts for the fact that the oldest son of Rachel and James Windham was named James Windham. Just as the oldest son of Old John, SR was named John, JR.
