Possible Alabama Orphaned Windham's
I have emailed in recent months with several of you who seem to post and respond here on a somewhat consistent basis about my great great grandfather James P Windham.I have documented his life from 1860 through 1920 through census records.Per said records, I have surmised that he was born around 1850 in Georgia (possible Alabama). On the 1860 Randolph County census, the 10 year old James P Windham is living with a non-Windham family.I have as of yet not been able to locate the death certificate of James P Windham (i believe he passed between 1920 and 1940) and i have made no head way in finding further evidence of his parents....until recently.
I have an aunt who is in the process of moving.During this process she came across some old letters, including one from her former neighbor.By coincidence or chance in the late 1970's, my aunt lived next door to a Mrs. Ruby Windham Jackson in Cleburne, TX.As they exchanged information, they believed that they shared common family lines.Mrs. Ruby Windham Jackson had a family bible belonging to her grandfather William Lawson Windham, whom she believed to be a brother to my James P Windham. The bible listed the birth dates of each of William Lawson Windham's brothers and sisters.
Using this information, i have began to look into each of these potential siblings of my James P Windham.
The potential siblings I am researching include:
John G. Windham b. 2 Feb 1842
Mary Ani b. 8 Feb 1844
Lucy Jane b. 21 Feb 1846
Cinthe E. b. 10 Nov 1848
James Pinkney b. 26 Jan 1850
William Lawson b. 17 Jan 1853
I have been able to document Lucy Jane, Cinthe E (Cynthia Elizabeth or "Lizzie"), and William Lawson in census records, but none before 1860.However as is the case with my James P. Windham, William Lawson Windham can be found living with a non-Windham family in 1860.
Per the Texas death certificate for Lucy Jane Windham Strickland, this group of siblings had a father who was named Tom Windham, born in Georgia. There was no information listed for the mother.
I am hoping someone has additional information on these siblings or the "Tom" Windham and unknown wife who must have passed away between 1853 and 1860.As always any help that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
