THE DARLIGTON COUNTY, SC. WINDHAMS
I feel compelled to write the following concerning what I believe is incorrect and misinformation which is being presented and published by one Windham Family researcher and writer. That writer has published both on his web site and on this forum, what I believe, are severalvery incorrect statements concerning the Green Color Group Descendants and the Orange Color Group Descendants.
I feel strongly that what that writer has written concluding that the Orange Color Group has a proven biological descent from Maj Amos Windham and is the Only Group who has a paper trail proven descent is very wrong.
I believe there are adequate documentation which support my belief that Elias(Eli P.) Windham and Robert Godfrey Windham were not biological sons of DanielWindham who was a son proven son of Maj. Amos Windham.
Was they sons of Daniel and Sarah Dawsey Windham? YES.
Were they biological sons of Daniel Windham?NO.
Were they adopted by Daniel Windham and given the Windham name?YES.
I believe Both Elias(Eli P.) and Robert Godfrey were sons of Sarah Dawsey by her first husband.
I believe it is very possible, based on DNA evidence, that the Biological Father of Elias(Eli P.) and Robert Godfrey were namedMoon.DNA testing has produced DNA participants from the Moon Family line who match that of the Windham Family Orange Group.

Dear Mr. Greenspan,
Could you please take a look at the test results for Participant # 140800 from the Windham Family Group and Participant , John David Moon [email protected] tell me what is the possibility that these two participants share a Common Biological Ancestor.
Thanks,
William

That they share a common male ancestor...high.Probably in the past 300 years VERY high.

Proof# 1: Daniel Windham married first, a distant cousin, who was a daughter of Moses Mathis.(The will of Moses Mathis was proven in open court on September 11, 1794, in Darlington County, South Carolina.Where Daniel Windham listed as a son-in law of Moses Mathis. This proves Daniel Windham was still a son-in-law of Moses Mathis in September 11, 1794.
Proof # 2:Daniel Windham had a proven Biological son named Daniel Windham, born 1796 according to the 1850 Census Report. Note:Daniel Windham was born a year later thanElias (Eli P.) Windham, March 16, 1795.
In 2008 I contacted a paper trail proven descendant of this Daniel Windham namedEugene Windhamhe agreed to be tested, his Y-DNA Test did indeed prove that he is a Biological Descendant of Maj Amos Windham, and do match the Green Color Group of other proven Biological descendants belonging to the Green Color Group..
Proof # 3:Daniel Windhammarried a second time to Sarah Dawsey .At one point I felt Sarah Dawsey may have been the widow of Fawler Dawsey.A researcher from the Dawsey Family Line informed me that he had proof that Sarah Dawsey was a daughter of William Dawsey.
Proof # 4.DNA testing of a descendant of Robert Godfrey Windham proves Robert Godfrey Windham was a biological brother of Elias Windham. The proven birth year of Robert Godfrey is 1805. (1850 Census Report for Copiah County, Mississippi)This means Daniel Windham did not marry Sarah Dawsey until after 1805.
Proof # 5.Daniel Windham and his first wife, who was a daughter of Moses Mathis, also had a proven daughter named Celia Windham, born 1798.
Proof # 6:DNA testing of proven descendants ofElias (Eli) P. Windhamand testing of a proven descendant of Robert Godfrey Windhamreflects that these descendants listed in the Orange Color Group could not have shared a common biological ancestor with the proven descendant of Daniel Windham who married Parthena Marshall.
There are numerous paper trail documented descendants ofDaniel Windham,SR.son of Charles Windhamand his first wife Mary who match the Green Color Group.
There are numerous paper trail documented descendants of John Windham, SR., son of Charles Windham and his first wife, Mary who match the Green Color Group
There are numerous paper trail documented descendants ofMaj Amos Windham, son of Charles and his first wife Mary, who match the Green Color Group.
There are numerous paper trail documented descendants ofJames Windham and Rachel (Sally) Windham, son of Charles Windham and his second wife, Anne Tuberville, who match the Green Color Group.( This would be descendants of sons of James and Rachel(Sally) Windham named James Windham, born about 1781 who married Nancy Reynolds and another son named John Windham, born 1785, died 1836 in Dale County, AL who married Virginia Jane Bartlett.Other researchers have reported this 1781 James Windham and 1785 John Windham as sons of John Windham, SR.The record is very clear that John Windham,SR. and his first wife had children born the same years as this1881 James and 1785 John. There was also a proven sister named Mary, born 1783 who married William Reynolds.Old John Windham,Sr had a son, his 1st born, named John Windham, JR. born 1884, who married Elizabeth Jones. He was enumerated as John Windham, JR, 26-44 years old in the 1810 Darlington Co., SC Census. The family members listed in the household of John, JR. do not match the proven family members of the John Windham who married Jane Bartlett. The John Windham who married Jane Bartlett is enumerated in the same 1810 Census as John Windham “min” (minister). The family members listed for this John Windham “min” do match the proven family members of John and Jane Bartlett Windham of Dale County, AL.I believe the record is very clear that both the 1781 James Windham and the 1785 John Windham were both Ministers of the Gospel.
I believe the record is clear that Old John Windham, SR. married the widow of his half brother in April, 1805 in Darlington District, SC. They had one daughter named Rachel Windham, born about 1807, who married Elijah Reynolds. Who also migrated to Dale Co., AL.
I feel some one who can see worth a hoot, should research this possible Moon Family connection. Like, maybe finding some evidence of a Moon family living near the Windham families in SC in the late 1700s and very early 1800s.I would not be surprised if a Moon family is found living very close to the Windhams in the 1800 Census. ( I am not a member of Ancestry.com plus I just can not see well enough any more.)
I would be glad to discuss what I have written here with any one interested, and there should be many,
