John Winchester of England arrival 1635
Hi Winchester's
I am in California and a member of the Kent Historical Society in England (International organization)and have done extensive research on John's family in England. One thing that many Winchester's have overlooked is that John's sister, Elizabeth, her husband and her young family were on the ship "Elizabeth" along with John. Also the family that he traveled with, Clement Bates, was a relation to him through his mother's side of the family. Jarvis Gold who also traveled with them - sad story. He had lost all of his family, wife and children, because of sickness. One traveling with hope of new beginnings.
John's father, Rycharde, was not from Cranbrook. He appeared in town during a huge plague that killed many of the residents. In the town records he was the only Winchester from the late 1400's to 1595 when he shows up. When he arrived in town he could not leave because of the plague that was present. During this time he found love, survived the plague, and made a place for himself and his new family, in Cranbrook.
I have many other stories and will be putting them in a book shortly for everyone which will includes pictures of many things and explain some of the mysteries that have unfolded over the last couple of years through my reearch.
I look forward to sharing my information with everyone,
Kathleen Winchester
