I have the following information regarding the Winchells of Onondaga County, New York and am in hopes someone can offer some input.

Cardiff Cemetery, Onondaga County, New York...

Family Plot contains the following people:
Order in which they are buried, left to right beginning with Daniel:
FIRST ROW
Daniel Winchell
Lois Winchell
Joseph Winchell
Abigal Winchell
Hiram Winchell
Sarah Winchell
There are 2 small markers approx 4" x 4" with a circle shape carved into it - one is placed in front of Daniel and the other is place in front of Sarah. This implies the family plot.

SECOND ROW BEHIND THE FIRST
HW (headstone is placed on the second row behind Hiram)

THIRD ROW
Ezra Winchell (headstone is placed behind HW headstone) This is the fanciest & biggest.

--------------------------
WINCHELL, Daniel
d. Jan 9 1808 Ae 78 (born about 1730)
WINCHELL, Lois (wife)
d. Feb 5 1818 Ae 88
WINCHELL, Joseph
d. Oct 10 1850 Ae 74
WINCHELL, Abigal
d. Mch 5 1819 Ae 46

Most information I have found online states that this Daniel Winchell was married to Lois Curtis and indicates that their burial place is Onondaga County, New York. LDS records indicate that he was married to Lois Hall. I descend through Joseph and Abigal, Hiram and Sarah, Joseph and Hulda (HW). Ezra was Hiram's brother.

A cousin sent me information tonight that has information regarding the Dan Winchell that married Lois Curtiss.

Page 98 of the Winchell Book states

....129 Dan Winchell (31 Hezekiah, 10 Nathanael, 2 Nathanael, 1 Robert). Born Kensington, Ct., 20 Nov 1736; m. Lois Curtiss, Wallingford, Ct., 9 Oct., 1755; d. Bristol, Ct., 1811. Lois died Farmington, 1810.

Dan received from his father, by will, a farm on the mountain at Kensington, southwest of Solomon's. Dan's house was on the north side of the road a few rods west of the residence of Charles Moore. Dan served in the Revolutionary War and had (besides Ezekiel) two sons in the service, William and Ira, the latter of whom fell at Bunker Hill. Dan was at Newgate, Ct., in 1775; he was a soldier in 1759. Dan in old age lived with his son-in-law, Joseph Dutton, in Farmington; died at the home of his dau., Mrs. Candace Richards, in Bristol, Ct., a few rods from Dutton's.

If the above (from the book) is correct, then the Daniel Winchell buried in Onondaga County, New York, cannot be the same Dan Winchell that was married to Lois Curtiss as so many sites indicate. It is said that the Daniel buried in Cardiff Cemetery was from Connecticut. I am searching for any information that may lead to the correct Winchell family for this Daniel.

-----------------------------
LaFayette Cemetery (also Onondaga County) has the following Winchell's:

Winchell, Jacob d. June 4, 1847, ae. 74
Winchell, Jedediah d. Nov. 26, 1840, ae. 89
Winchell, John d. Oct. 1, 1851, ae. 68-6-6
Winchell, Polly d. Jan. 22, 1831, ae. 55, w/o Jacob
Winchell, Sidney d. Mar. 7, 1842, ae. 25
Winchell, Surviah W. d. Apr. 15, 1865, ae. 82-3-18, w/o John

If you have any information, please post here.

Thanks,
Paula
