Dempsey Winborne - Pheroby Sharp? - Northampton NC
My interest is in Dempsey Winborne who died 1816 in Northampton Co. NC and his wife Pheroby - shown as Sharp in some Winborne genealogies.
She was the widow of Elisha Rose of Halifax Co NC.Their marriage took place between 1802, when she was counted on the 1800 census and the 1802 tax list in Halifax as Pheroby Rose, and 1804 when there is a deed in Halifax Co between Willie Rose, son of Elisha and Pheroby, and Dempsey Winborne related to the estate of Elisha Rose. ( also deed in 1808 for step-sons Gardner and Jesse.Dempsey is shown as of Northampton Co NC)
Dempsey was single in Northampton in 1790, and in 1800 has two males and no females.I believe this he was a widower at the time with young son, Lemuel, so Pheroby ? Rose, was his second wife.
My question is was the maiden name of Pheroby "Sharp", or was "Sharp" perhaps the name of Dempsey's first wife?
1810 Dempsey is in Northampton with 4 boys under 4, 1- 10-16, 1- 16-20 126-45 and one female 26-45.
Obviously Pheroby has had four young children and the other boys could be Lemuel and one of her sons Jesse
or Gardner Rose.
Gardner and Jesse Rose and Dempsey all died between 1813-1816, Northampton Co NC.
1820 Pheroby is in Northampton with four boys between 10-16 and she is over 45.
I'd be interested in any information about Pheroby, especially the origin of the name Sharp.
I can send abstracts of the Halifax deeds related to Dempsey Winborne if you are interested.
