Hi Emily!

Always good to hear from you!

Matthias Winans and Lydia (Goble?) had 8 children. One of them was names Nancy,

Also of interest the son John who m. Caroline Gardner, recalling the problem one John Tharp had with a Gardiner/Gardner, bro in law. Can't recall the date.

The Winans have been of interest as Whit Tharp, had a quit claim, from Harriet Ross-Steele, in Fulton Co IL.

Her mother was Mary Winans, b.1 APR 1793 Morris Co.,NJ.,d 29 JUL 1875, Fulton Co IL. The father was Ossion Ross, b. Aug. 16, 1790, Dutchess Co NY., son of Jos. Ross and Abigail Lee.

Mary's parents, said to be,Lewis Ross, and Sarah Halsey

Source: Original data: Historical encyclopedia of Illinois and History of Fulton County. Chicago: Munsell Pub. Co., 1908, c1905.

Ossian M Ross b. NY Aug, 16, 1790, d. 1837, m. Miss Mary Winans in Waterloo NY., July 7, 1811
Mary b. Apr. 1 1793, Morris Co NJ.
1821 to Alton IL. sailed up the IL river...

The daughter Harriet, was b. in Canada.. must have been relatives there as there is a later ref. to a daughter who was there to visit.

While the claim proves no more than their knowledge of one another, I continue to be curious...
