I saw your posting about Nancy Winans and John Tharp. I just happened to be picking apart that same thing. I think you may have seen the post by: wbh (ID ****1115) #451 on I had worked on the Nancy Winans listed before and gave up. Then I decided as long as Nancy Winans' birth didn't show up in Orange County, NY, I would check to see where the Winans originated and it seems to be around Essex County, NJ.

I checked a number of places in Sussex County and found a book "Hardyston Memorial" by Alan Austin Haines. On page 148 there was mention of an individual who stayed at Winans house in Vernon. Then I checked the entry #451, and realized that Winans family was also from Vernon TWP. Vernon TWP was established in 1793 from Hardyston TWP. I get the feeling that Nancy Winans was from Sussex County.

Without dates on the statement about Moses and John Tharp - "His oldest brother was Moses. Moses had 2 sons - James and Moses". The Moses that married Elizabeth McDevitt Aug. 6, 1811 by George Gustin Esq. had 2 sons - James and Moses and 2 daughters. If that is the correct Moses at least that is a date to work from.

I will keep hunting.

I enjoyed your recent email - I have a Great Granddaughter who turns everything to art.
