I have a little more information on Bessie Winans if you are interested.
From Lizzie Hawley, Winans obituary, it gives Lizzie died in Caro, Mi. Apr 1889, 27 years old leaving two children, one less than two years, and the other hardly two weeks. Her husband (Fred) was detained in NY City by illness and was not present.
Bessie was raised by her grandparents, William and Minerva Hawley in Caro. In the obituary of Minerva (died 17 Dec 1917) it gives Bess Winans of Cleveland, now suffering from typhoid fever, and too ill to be told of the death of her grand mother with whom she lived until two years ago.
Bess may have worked in a hospital in Cleveland.
I have been unable to find out any more information about Bess or the other child. I do not have access to census records.
