George Galloway Winans was born 20 July 1856 in Rough and Ready, Nevada County, California, the son of Edwin Barauch Winans and Elizabeth Galloway. He married Catherine Ellen Valentine, the daughter of Alfred Sidney Valentine and Elizabeth Haight.
George and Catherine had two children:
1. Elizabeth Winans, born 30 April 1891 in Hamburg, Livingston County, Michigan, died 2 February 1894 in Hamburg, Michigan.
2. Edein Valentine Winans, born 17 December 1893 in Hamburg, Michigan, married 5 January 1918 to Eva Mulreed.
Edwin Barauch Winans was born 16 May 1825 at Avon, Livingston County, New York, and died 4 July 1894 at Hamburg, Livingston County, Michigan. He was the son of John Winans and his second wife, Eliza Way. Edwin married 3 September 1855 at Hamburg, Michigan to Elizabeth Galloway, the daughter of George Galloway and Susan Haight. Elizabeth was born 15 January 1836 at Hamburg and died 2 February 1926, also at Hamburg. George was a very successful politician in both California and Michigan. Among other political positions, he was Governor of Michigan 1891-1892.
George and Susan had two sons:
1. George Galloway Winans, mentioned above.
2. Edwin Barauch Winans, Jr., born 31 October 1869 at Hamburg, Michigan, married Edith Auman.
